SPD 10- “Fleeing”

“It’s been way too quiet around here.” Angie sighed as she fell back on the sofa in the rec room.

“And this is a bad thing why?” Bre asked as she grabbed a water bottle from Sage.

“Because that means that Mirloc is planning something big. All his plans have fails so far.”

“Or maybe he gave up.”

“Bre, you don’t honestly believe that, do you?” Clarissa asked.

“Well, I can hope.”

“You realize that’s ridiculous right? Mirloc didn’t just give up.” Ava said.

“Unlikely.” Sage agreed.

“It is possible that he realized SPD is just too much for him.” Dallas said.

“That’s what I’m talking about.” Bre said as she high fived him.

“What do you think Sammi?” Clarissa asked.

I shrugged, “I don’t know. I guess I’d like to think Mirloc gave up, but I’m with Sage, it seems highly unlikely.”

“It’s very unlikely, so we stay alert and prepare for whatever Mirloc throws our way.” Angie said.

“You do that. I’m going to go watch a movie. Care to join me Dallas?” Bre asked.

“Sure. Sounds great.” Dallas said.

Angie sighed, “You are the most ill-prepared group of…”

“Stop Angie. You’re not making a point by insulting anyone.” Sage said.

“Fine, whatever, just keep your communicators.”

“Will do.” Dallas said as he and Bre took off.

“I’m gonna go play some basketball. You in Sammi?” Clarissa asked.

I shook my head, “Can’t. Gotta get to the studio. Late night recording session. Sorry.”

“It’s ok. Have fun.”

I nodded as I grabbed my things and headed out. I ran up to my room and quickly changed into civilian clothes then I went to the studio.

I walked into the recording studio, which was pretty intimidating. I saw a man in the lobby waiting.

“Mr. Burke?” I asked.

“Yes, you must be Samantha.” He said.

“Yes sir. I’m Samantha McKnight, but you can call me Sam or Sammi. It’s a pleasure to meet you Mr. Burke.”

“Please, call me Jasper.”

“Ok, Jasper.”

“Thanks. It’s a pleasure to meet you Sam. I’ve worked with your grandmother and she speaks very highly of your talent. I look forward to seeing what you can do.”

“Great. When can we get started?”

“Right now. First we need to work out what you’re going to record. I understand you write your own music?”

“Yes sir.”

“You grandmother said there was one you played for her that was very good.”

I nodded, “I think she means ‘A Place in This World’.”

“OK, then go into the booth and let’s kick it off.”

I nodded and did as he said. I started to play my guitar and sing:

“I don't know what I want
So don't ask me cause I'm still tryin' to figure it out
Don't know what's down this road
I'm just walkin', tryin' to see through the rain comin' down
Even though I'm not the only one who feels the way I do

I'm alone, on my own
And that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong
Oh but life goes on
Oh I'm just a girl, tryin' to find a place in this world

Got the radio on, my old blue jeans
And I'm wearin' my heart on my sleeve
Feelin' lucky today, got the sunshine
Could you tell me what more do I need
And tomorrow's just a mystery, oh yeah
But that's okay

I'm alone, on my own
And that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong
Oh but life goes on
Oh I'm just a girl, tryin' to find a place in this world Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission
But I'm ready to fly ..

I'm alone, on my own
And that's all I know
I'll be strong, I'll be wrong
Oh but life goes on
Oh I'm just a girl, tryin' to find a place in this world”

“Wow, Sam, that’s amazing” Jasper said when I finished.

“You think so?”

“Um, yes, I think that song is begging to be number one.”

I smiled, “Wow…this is everything I’ve ever wanted.”

Bridget

~~~~~~
“I can’t believe you were scared.” Dallas teased as we walked home.
“I was not scared!” I cried.
“Oh really? That’s why you jumped about a mile high when that zombie jumped out at the heroine.”
“I didn’t jump.”
“Bre, you practically jumped in my lap. You were hanging on to me like a life raft.”
“No, no…you see I thought you might be scared. I was just, ya know, protecting you.”
Dallas laughed, “Sure, whatever you say.”
I hit him, “You jerk!”
He picked me up and spun me around. I wiggled and we ended up falling down in the grass to the side of the sidewalk. He landed on top of me and next thing I knew the giggling had stopped and we were looking into each other’s eyes. Suddenly he leaned down and kissed me. It was the most unexpected but completely wonderful thing ever.
The kiss broke and he looked at me.
“Should I be sorry I just did that?” he asked as he helped me up.
“No…I’m not.” I replied, breathless.
“I don’t know why I just did that. You’re Skye’s best friend and you’re supposed to be like a sister to me.”
“That didn’t feel like a brotherly kiss.”
“No, it didn’t.”
“What’s happening here Dallas?” I asked.
“I have no idea.”
“You need to figure it out then. Our families are family and it’s not worth risking those bonds unless you know what you’re feeling.”
He nodded, “You’re right.”
“I know I am. Let’s get home.”
We got home and I went upstairs to the room Skye and I shared. She was at the computer talking to some of her friends from school. I walked over to my bed and fell back. Skye stood up and came over and sat on the edge of my bed.
“You ok?” she asked.
“Been better.” I replied with a sigh.
“What happened?”
I laughed, “I can’t tell you.”
“What? You tell me everything Bre.”
“I know, but I don’t feel like getting hit.”
“What? I promise not to hit you.”
“Fine…it’s Dallas.”
“What? What did that ass do to you? I’ll hurt him.”
I sat up, “No, no…stop. It’s not like that.”
“What then?”
Dallas kissed me.”
Skye’s jaw dropped, “You mean he kissed you like…kissed you?”
I nodded.
“EWWWWW!!!!!!”
“See! This is why I didn’t want to tell you!” I cried.
“Ok, ok, sorry. Wait, did you kiss him back?”
I nodded.
“Oh EWW!!”
I sighed.
“Did it mean anything?”
“I don’t know yet.”
“Ok, that would be just too weird if the two of you started dating.”
“I know.”
“So what are you going to do?”
I sighed, “I don’t know yet.”
Angie
~~~~~

I was sitting in the Command Center monitoring for any suspicious activity. I really didn’t care what Bridget and the others thought…Mirloc was up to something and it was just a matter of time before he would strike. I would be ready.

“Officer Harrington, are all the Zords on stand-by?” I asked.

Kara nodded, “Yes Cadet Landors, they are ready to move out at a moments notice.”

“Good, thank you.”

“You know you don’t have to sit around and wait for an attack.”

“Someone has to.”

“We’ll call you when and if it happens.”

“I appreciate it, but I’m fine.”

“What are you trying to prove?”

“Nothing, just trying to protect the Earth.”

“It’s more than that. Sage is just as devoted as you. So are Sammi and Clarissa and they have fun.”

“There will be time for fun after Mirloc is contained.” I said as the alarm sounded.

“Looks like you were right, Mirloc was planning something big. He’s in town with a whole army of Krybots.”

“Mirloc is actually there himself?”

“Yes, guess he decided if he wanted his done right he had to do it himself.”

“It’s time to take him down. Call the others and have them meet me.”

“Angie, wait, you can’t go alone.”

“No time to wait. Call the others. SPD Emergency!” I cried.

I hopped on my motorcycle and raced to the part of town Mirloc was in.

“Hey Mirloc, this ends here and now!” I cried as I stood face to face with him.

“Ah, Red Ranger…you’re right, it does.” Mirloc replied.

“Good, at least we agree on something.” I said as I pulled my sword and started to attack.

“So vicious. You have something to prove…”

“Only that I can contain you.”

“It’s more than that. You don’t like being a girl…you feel inferior to men because of the weaknesses of your gender.”

“That isn’t true. I’m as strong as any man.”

“Ah, but you’re not…and that kills you. You know that unless your friends show up soon I will kill you. That doesn’t terrify you though, it infuriates you.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Don’t I? I am stronger than you Red Ranger and I could kill you anytime I so choose.”

“Wishful thinking Mirloc. No one is dying today, but you are about to be contained.”

“Unlikely…and even if you could you can’t keep me contained. Haven’t you SPD twits learned that by now?”

“Oh, but we will contain you and this time you won’t get away.”

“We’ll see about that won’t we?” Mirloc asked as he attacked me, sending me flying. I landed at Bridget’s feet. My team had arrived.

“Fancy meeting you here.” Bridget said.

“It’s over Mirloc, give it up!” Sam cried.

“You think I’m scared of the Barbie Rangers?” Mirloc asked.

“Barbie Ranger?! Oh that’s it. This guy is toast.” Ava said.

“Let’s show this guy what we can do.” Clarissa said.

“Oh yeah.” Sage and Dallas agreed.

We started fighting hand to hand with Mirloc. It was an admittedly hard fight. Avoiding getting trapped in his mirrors was no easy task, but we’d been training for this. We’d learned to avoid it pretty well. Commander Tate knew how Mirloc thought and that had helped us train for this battle.

The fight was still intense and there were truly moments I felt like it was useless and there was no way we could win.

“We can do this…keep fighting guys.” Sam said.

“We can’t give up.” Ava echoed.

I nodded and we kept fighting. Finally I saw an opening.

“It’s over Mirloc. You’re charged with conspiracy, murder, and attempted murder. You’re guilty and you will be contained.” I said.

“Not likely.” Mirloc said.

“No escape now.” I said, but as I went to contain him I noticed he was gone. “What? NO!” I cried.

“Where did he go?” Bridget asked.

“Good question. I thought we had him.” Sam said.

“We don’t. Everyone back to the base, now!” I commanded.

We got back to the base and gathered in the Command Center.

“What happened out there Kara? I thought we had him.” Clarissa said.

“I’m trying to find out.” Kara said.

“Mirloc managed to find a reflection just before you were able to contain him. Still, in spite of his escape I am proud of how you all fought. Mirloc is not an easy opponent. I’m impressed with the skill you all showed.” Commander Tate said.

“But we still failed. Mirloc is still out there!” I cried.

“This is true, but the battle is not over. We will locate Mirloc and bring him to justice.”

“And I think I found him.” Kara said.

“Oh? Where is he?” Sam asked.

“Well, after tracing his energy signature…it looks like he’s in London.”

London? As in England?” Dallas asked.

“Yes, London as in England.” Kara replied.

“Why there?” Ava asked.

“Other side of the world. Maybe he figured he’d be safe.” Sage said.

“Yeah, that battle has to take a lot out of him. He probably thinks that’s a safe place to recharge.” Sam agreed.

London is out of our jurisdiction.” Tate said.

“Isn’t Earth our jurisdiction?” I asked.

“Only half of the Earth. New Tech City isn’t the only SPD Earth location…not anymore anyway. Some years back a second SPD Earth base was opened…SPD UK located in London. It’s run by Commander Gibson Jax. He has his own squads and teams. We can’t chase Mirloc to London without the cooperation of SPD UK…truthfully he’s there problem now.”

“No. I won’t accept that. Mirloc is ours…it’s our job to bring him in.”

“I figured you would say that…to which I say this…go pack.”

“Pack sir?” Sam asked.

Tate nodded, “Yes…pack. I’m going to talk to Commander Jax about working with us. Ladies and gentleman, we’re going to London.”
