PRT 384- “Venus of Love”

I was sitting on the sofa watching some old music videos from back in the day when my doorbell rang. I paused the tape and went to answer it. Mina stood there with a small bag in her hand.

“Special delivery.” She sang.

I smiled, “For me? You shouldn’t have.” I took the bag and looked inside. There sat my cell phone, controller necklace, and transformation bracelet. “Oh wow, thank you so much.”

Mina nodded, “Don’t mention it.”

“You want to come in for a bit?” I asked politely.

“Alright, sure.” She said as she came in.

I closed the door behind her and immediately put my necklace back on. I instantly felt better than I had since this whole mess began. I then put on my bracelet and slid my phone in my pocket.

“Have a seat.” I said as we went into the living room.

Mina sat down and looked at the TV, “Watching old school videos?”

“Yeah. All this reunion stuff has made me want to revisit the past. For all the bad stuff, some of it was a lot of fun.” I said as I sat next to her.

“Understandable. It couldn’t have all been bad.”

“Not at all.”

“Speaking of the past, how is Jon?”

“Fine. Evidently Dot and Rich both bought his carjacking story and Amy totally helped sell it from a medical stand point.”

Mina made a face, “Well she can certainly lie.”

I looked at her, “Did I miss something?”

“Long story.”

“Mina, I know we’re just kinda rebuilding our friendship, but you can still trust me. What’s up between you and Amy?” I asked.

Mina sighed, “She did something that hurt me so much…but we promised we’d put the hard feelings aside until Diamond was safe…then it became putting it aside until Nemesis was taken care of and…I just have it all bottled up.”

“Well that simply won’t do. What did Amy do that hurt you?”

Mina took a deep breath, “She slept with Adam.”

My eyes widened with shock, “She what?!”

“Yeah, I know.”

“Amy? As in sweet little Amy Anderson? Sailor Mercury? She slept with your fiancé?”

“He’s kinda left me, but yeah…pretty much.”

“Even if your two were on a break or whatever, that’s horrible!”

“Yeah…I didn’t really know how to react. I mean Adam did walk out on me so I guess he was free to do whatever he wanted, but Amy is supposed to be my friend.”

“No, you’re right to be hurt. Even now, if any of my friends slept with Hunter I’d be hurt.”

“Yeah…I just don’t know what to do?”

“Did Amy say anything about why she did it?”

“We didn’t discuss it much. We were a little preoccupied with Prince Diamond and as I said, we pushed it aside.”

I shook my head, “Well we are back at full power and gained the knowledge of who Nemesis is. I think it’s time that you face Amy and figure this out.”

I had just finished with a patient and was putting her chart up for the nurses when I heard my name.

“Amy…”

I turned around and saw Adam, “What’s up?”

“We need to talk.”

“Now really isn’t a good time. I’m working.” I said as I grabbed another chart and started to walk away.

Adam grabbed my arm, “Amy, we need to talk about this. You can’t run away from it.”

“There is nothing to talk about. What we did was a mistake and it really hurt Mina.” I said pulling away.

“There is a lot to talk about. I know why I did it…I was hurt…but you…I want to know why you did it?”

“This isn’t the time.”

“Amy, stop. Please, talk to me.”

I sighed, he wasn’t going to let up. “Fine, but not here.” I said as I grabbed his hand and led him to the courtyard at the back of the hospital. We sat down and I looked down. I couldn’t bring myself to look at him.

“Amy, what happened with us? We were friends and it just…do you have feelings for me?” Adam finally asked.

I nodded, still looking down, “Yeah, I do.” I said softly.

“Then why did you push me away?”

I tilted my head up, barely looking at him, “Why? Because you’re supposed to be with one of my best friends. Mina loves you and I know you still love her. I’m not going to be the one responsible for breaking you two up and I’m certainly not stealing my friend’s boyfriend.”

“Mina and I aren’t together right now.”

“You should be…and if not for me you probably would be back together.”

“Amy, you aren’t to blame for my problems with Mina.”

“Maybe not, but I certainly didn’t help anything.”

“Do you really feel what we did was a mistake?” he asked.

“Of course it was.”

“Would you take it back?”

I sighed.

“You wouldn’t, would you?”

“No, I wouldn’t. Ok, you happy? I admit it. The most horrible thing I’ve ever done to anyone was a very special night to me that I’ll always treasure. There. I said it.” I snapped.

“Amy, calm down. It meant a lot to me too.”

“Adam, what does it even matter? It’s not like you have feelings for me…do you?”

Adam closed his eyes, “I’m not sure what I’m feeling.”

“You still love Mina, right?”

“Of course I do.”

“Then go back to her.”

“I’m not sure if I can be with her.”

“You can…you just need to talk to her.”

“She’s changed.”

“She’s been through a lot but she and Mich made up…Mina will come through this. You need to talk to her.”

“Is that really what you want? For me and Mina to make up?”

“Yeah…”

“Is it?”

I just stared at him. I didn’t know how to answer.

Michelle had convinced me to talk to Amy. She even drove me to the hospital. We went to her floor but one of the nurses said she’d gone off to the courtyard. Mich and I went over there and went we went out we saw Adam and Amy sitting really close and looking into each others eyes. I froze in my tracks.

“Oh my god…” Michelle murmured, turning Adam and Amy’s attention to us.

“Mina!” Adam said backing away from Amy.

“Wow, I thought maybe it was just a night of weakness and we could get past this but…clearly there is more here than I wanted to let myself think…I hope you two are very happy together.” I said as I tried to run away.

“Whoa, whoa…I think there is some explaining to me done.” Michelle said catching me before I could take off.

“Let me go.” I said.

“Mina, wait, I can explain.” Adam said as he walked over to me.

“Explain what? Why you’re all over my friend? Sure, explain.”

“Mina, listen, I didn’t mean to hurt you. It just happened.”

“It just happened? What? You fell on her?”

“Mina…”

I looked him in the eye, “Do you have feelings for her?”

Michelle looked at me then at Adam, “Ad, answer this very carefully.”

“Stay out of this Michelle. Adam, do you have feelings for Amy?” I asked again.

“I…I don’t know.” Adam finally said.

“You don’t know? How do you not know?”

“I just don’t! It’s confusing to me too.”

“OK, fine. Are you confused about your feelings for me too?”

“Yeah, I am.”

“OK, then let me make it easy for you. It’s over.” I said as I took off my engagement ring and threw it at him.

“Mina, wait!” I heard Adam call. I ignored him and kept walking. Michelle ran after me.

“Mina, are you ok?” she asked when she caught up to me.

“No, I’m not…” I stopped and started crying, “I love him.”

“Oh honey.” Mich said as she hugged me, “Come on, let’s get out of here before the vultures start to circle.”

I nodded and Michelle took me back to her place.

After Mina left I looked at Adam, “You don’t know what you’ve just done.”

“I just told the truth.” Adam said.

“What? That you don’t know how you feel about either of us?”

“Right.”

“Then you better figure it out before anyone gets hurt worse.”

“How do you feel about me?”

“You know that and if you’re trying to get me to say the ‘L’ word, it’s not going to happen. You’re not the only confused one…but I think you need to take that ring back to Mina and beg her forgiveness. She’s who you belong with and we both know it. Now I have to get back to work.” I said as I walked away, leaving Adam alone.

I went back up to my floor and started back to work. I needed to get my mind off this mess. I needed to get my mind off Adam. He belonged with Mina and that was the end of it. I just had to let it go. The look on Mina’s face when she saw us killed me. I hated hurting her and I decided I wouldn’t do it anymore.

We got back to Michelle’s apartment and sat down in the living room. I started crying again and Michelle hugged me.

“Shh, it’ll be ok sweetie.” She whispered as she brushed my hair with her hand.

“How could they do this to me?” I sobbed. I felt like my heart was literally breaking.

“I have no idea. If I hadn’t have seen it I wouldn’t have believed it.”

“How can he say he’s confused about me? He promised we’d be together forever.”

“I know hun.”

“He wanted to marry me. And how could Amy sleep with him? Of all the men in the world, why Adam?”

“I know you don’t want to hear this, but I think Amy is in love with Adam too.”

“I don’t care! He was my fiancé!”

“I know. I didn’t say I agreed with her.”

I sat up and wiped my eyes, “You know what? That’s fine. Adam Park is not the only man in the world. I think I hear Sunset calling.”

“Um, you know Brett still shows up on Sunset a lot, right?”

“Yeah, and he’s only one of the many men that would be thrilled to have the Princess of Love.”

“You’re the Princess of Venus…”

“Same thing.”

“…and I don’t think Brett is the best person for you to be around right now anyway.”

“Mich, you told me not to try to control your life. Don’t try to control mine…besides, I know you’re itching to go to Sunset.”

“Of course I am…but…ok, you make a valid point. We all have to live our own lives. Let’s hit Sunset.”

“Great. I’m going to run home and change. I’ll meet you back in at 10.”

“Sounds great.”

I went home and looked in my closet for something cute. I knew that the press would be all abuzz to actually see me on Sunset and especially to see me and Mich together so I had to look hot.

“Mina, what are you doing?” Artemis asked as he walked in and jumped on my bed.

“Getting dressed. I’m going to Sunset with Mich tonight.” I said.

“Um, you hate Sunset.”

“I need to have fun to ya know.”

“Oh dear…what happened with Adam.”

“He’s ‘confused’.”

Artemis sighed, “I’m sorry…but do you think Sunset is the cure?”

I grabbed an orange halter top from my closet. It was cute. It was strapless on one side but not on the other. “Harley!” I called.

“Yeah?” Harley asked as she came in.

“What do you think? Cute?” I asked.

“Yeah. Where are you going?”

“Your m…Michelle and I are going to Sunset.”

Harley made a face, “I’ve heard about that place.”

“See, even in the future they know Sunset is a bad idea.” Artemis said.

“Hush.” I said as I pulled out a pair of white pants, “What do you think?”

“It’s really cute, but I really have heard bad stories about Sunset.” Harley said.

“Then get dressed and come with us. Check it out for yourself.”

Harley shook her head, “No thank you. I’ve cheated on my husband in the time period once. I just assume not risk it again.”

“OK, then can you stay here and watch over Kaya? Make sure Mia doesn’t sneak in and catnap her back.”

Harley nodded, “Of course.”

I got dressed and slipped on some orange clogs. “How do I look?” I asked.

“Totally hot.” Harley said.

“Thanks. If you need anything call me. And keep that cat locked up.”

“Hey!” Artemis said as he walked back in the room from getting a drink of water.

“Not you, Kaya! Although the way you’re acting I’m not opposed to locking you up with her.”

Artemis made a face, “Just trying to watch out for you.”

“I appreciate it, but I’m fine. See you guys later.” I said as I grabbed my purse and headed out.

I met up with Mich and we went out to Sunset. The second we got out of the car the paparazzi noticed us.

“Michelle! Mina! Are you two friends again?” one called.

“Was this all a publicity stunt to get attention?” another asked.

“Mina, is it true you and Adam broke up?”

“Michelle, are you and Mia on the outs?”

All the while pictures were being snapped. We smiled at the cameras and ignored the questions as we walked into the club.

“Damn vultures.” I said.

“Ignore them. We’re here to have fun.” Michelle said as we headed to the bar. We ordered a drink and I noticed Michelle pull a bottle out of her purse and take a pill from it. She popped it in her mouth and downed it with her drink.

“What was that?” I asked.

“Nothing.” She said as she slipped the bottle back in her purse.

“Nothing?”

“Yeah. Come on, let’s dance.”

We went out to the dance floor and started dancing together. We were having a blast when I felt some hands on my waist.

“Here’s a sight I never thought I’d see again. Mina Gordon having fun.” Brett said as he came up behind me and rested his chin on my shoulder.

“Girl’s gotta have fun sometime.” I smiled.

“Does this mean you finally left that lame doctor of yours?”

“He’s not a doctor yet, and he left me.”

“Technically you left him.” Michelle chimed in.

“He cheated.”

“Who would cheat on you?” Brett asked.

I looked at him like he was crazy, “You?”

“I was an idiot too.”

“Yeah? And what about your Rock of Love? I don’t think she’ll like you all up on me.” I said.

“We aren’t exclusive.”

“Mmm, so that’s why you’re over here. You want to hook up.”

“I always want to hook up with you.”

“Brett…” Michelle warned.

“Hey, back off Ms. Giovanni.” I countered.

She sighed, “Point. OK, fine.”

“Where is Jonny-boy anyway? Haven’t seen him around here.” Brett said.

“Yeah, I know. He’s keeping a safe distance from Sunset until the rumors die down.”

“Makes sense.”

“So does that mean you’re looking for company? CeCi is over in the VIP area. He’d love to get with ya.”

“Not if he was the last man on Earth. I wouldn’t hook up with him back in the day and I ain’t hooking up with him now.” Michelle said.

We stayed at the club and drank way into the night. Finally the club was getting close to closing.

“Come on Mina, we should go.” Michelle said grabbing my arm.

“Or you could come home with me.” Brett said. We’d been dancing all night and I was having a blast.

“Mina, you’re not me…you don’t want to go there again. I know you.”

“Or maybe I do. You always bounce back from any heartache. Maybe I should be more like you.” I said.

“No, you don’t want to be like me, trust me. I don’t want to be like me ½ the time.”

“Your call Min. My bike is outside.” Brett said.

“Dude, you’re drunk. You’re not riding home.”

“I’m fine.”

“Mina, this is crazy. Let’s call a cab and go back to my place.” Michelle said.

I shook my head, “No. I’m going with Brett.”

Michelle sighed.

“Come on Beautiful Girl, we have a lot of lost time to make up for.” Brett said as he took my hand and we left the club. Of course as we rode off the press was snapping pictures, but I didn’t really care. If Adam didn’t want me…fine. Brett was just one of many that certainly did.
